When hiring roofing companies or roofing contractors, it is important that you take a closer look at their licenses and experiences. This will help you determine whether or not they are legitimate and will provide an outstanding job on your roofing project.
Below are some basic questions you can ask a roofing contractor to learn more about their license and experience.
Do you have the necessary industry licenses?
You will need to ask the roofing companies you interview about their industry licenses. It is important that you only hire a roofing contractor who has the necessary licenses and is able to prove and back them up with legit certifications.
Have been involved in a litigation of any kind?
Roofing contractors could easily work their way out of this tricky question. But the fact that you asked it unexpectedly may surprise them, which could prompt them to tell you the truth. A contractor gets plus points if they tell you the truth about a litigation they have been into in the past five years. Keep in mind that honesty is one of the many foundations of a strong work relationship between buyer and seller. Also, don’t forget that litigation can happen for various reasons. Hence, it is best to dig deeper and ask for the primary reason of their litigation issues.
Have you gone through a change of name in the past five years?
Some roofing companies may change their names as many times as they want. You need to know how many times they have undergone this change and ask why they needed to change their name. Note that one of the many reasons a company decides to change their name is because of bankruptcy, dissolution, and/or a change in owner or operator – any of which are signs you shouldn’t work with the contractor.
Have you handled the same or similar roofing projects as the one I am hiring you for?
A contractor who has experience working on the same roofing project as yours will ensure that you will have fewer problems and issues as they complete the project. You’ll have the assurance that they already know what they’re doing and that they will be able to finish the project more smoothly and quickly.
How many projects are you handling at the moment and can you work on all those projects including mine as efficiently?
You need to know how much workload the contractor has at the moment because this will certainly affect their performance and service. If they are completing several projects at one time, they might not have the staff, the tools, and the time to efficiently finish your roofing project.
